Comments from the Author

It would be accurate to say my wife and I have been planning a period of extended travel for about five years. What I aim to accomplish is to share our planning experiences for our proposed multiyear trip, so that this will help you with your great adventure. While this book provides detailed information most pertinent to those living in the United States, the general principles apply to those in other parts of the world. Whether you’re an individual, a couple starting retirement, considering a sabbatical, or a younger family looking for a new path forward, there’s plenty of material applicable to your situation. The chapters in this book are as follows:

  1. Introduction
  2. Living in a Digital Age
  3. Our Family
  4. Ways to Travel
  5. Financial Planning
  6. Making Money on the Road
  7. Logistical Planning
  8. Traveling with Children
  9. Getting Started with Airbnb
  10. Getting Started with Trustedhousesitters.com
  11. Now for the Real Stuff

I'm still looking for more personal experiences of using accommodation sites like Airbnb and HomeAway, house sitting sites like Trustedhousesitters and Nomador, and house exchange sites like Home Exchange and Intervac. I'm also hearing about employment that you've successfully done on the road while traveling for leisure. If you have any interesting stories you'd like to share that could potentially be included in a possible 2nd edition of this book I'd love to hear from you. If you have friends who might want to talk to me about their experiences, please make an introduction?  You can contact me using the Contact Us button at the bottom of this website.
