It's great to get our first house sit of the year under our belt; a 10-night stay at a wonderful home in La Jolla, California with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, and just a 10-minute walk from the beach. Our duties were straightforward; look after the house, get the trash out and empty the mailbox. There were no pet responsibilities, which disappointed Xaria somewhat!

If you're familiar with southern California, you'll probably have realized this house sit was close to our own home. Being so close had the advantage that if we had forgotten anything it was within easy reach. As it turned out, we were well prepared and while we did pick up a few additional items from our own house, none were essential, more in the nice-to-have category.
While we were at the sit we took the opportunity to spend time in both La Jolla and Pacific Beach (PB). The girls found a great spot to access the ocean and took full advantage as the weather improved in the latter half of our stay.

We visited a couple of good local restaurants, and the girls took the opportunity of joining the St. Patrick's Day celebrations in PB.

Midway through our stay, we ventured up to Walker Canyon, nr Lake Elsinore to see the incredible wildflower displays, dominated by mountainsides of California Poppies.
Being a bit of a fitness fanatic, Yafei also took the opportunity to attend The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) conference at the San Diego Convention Center.

I was unfortunately not able to take full advantage of this house sit, this was the week I launched my new book, A Life Redesigned (that had a working title, 'Preparing for a Life Rewired') on Kickstarter! This book provides great information on starting house sitting, as well as other types of sharing economy accommodation such as Airbnb, home exchange, co-living spaces, etc. The book also examines remote work opportunities for digital nomads in the rapidly growing gig economy, providing many examples of the available opportunities. In addition, 'Preparing for a Life Rewired' presents a methodology for determining if you're in the appropriate financial position for extended travel, and presents the many logistical areas you'll need to address before traveling. This is the go-to book on extended travel in a digital economy. Please support us Kickstarter and take the opportunity to participate in some very special launch offerings.
If you need reliable house sitters, particularly for longer term stays (one month to a year), with excellent references who can care for a variety of pets, please contact us directly, or through our Trustedhousesitter.com profile.
