10-weeks in England - Here's the Final Skinny

Written by Gary, Photos by Gary & Yafei

So this is the final post covering our ten-week trip to England in the early summer of 2019.  We were starting to live the title of Dad's new travel book, A Life Redesigned. Years of planning were over, and our extended travel adventures had begun in earnest.  This article provides an overview of our England trip; follow the embedded links for more detailed pieces.

We were away for 10-weeks and traveled several thousand miles around England, visiting Buckinghamshire, the New Forest, the Lake District, South Wales, London, and the West Country.

Highlights of the trip included Xaria getting to spend time with her grandfather whom she had only met once before, several fun adventures with her cousins Jack and Sydney, quality time with special friends, and discovering a trip on the English canals might well be in our future.

One of the things we love about travel is the opportunity to learn more about yourself and the family.  This was certainly the case on this trip, and before our next trip, we've got more work to do relating to improving family dynamics, undertaking successful homeschooling, and practicing more thoughtful packing.

Considering the majority of our accommodation was free, traveling in England still proved to be expensive - averaging $213 per day inclusive of airfares.

National Trust Family Membership proved a great purchase and allowed us to visit many historic properties economically. London also offered many free attractions including the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Maritime Museum, Notting Hill Market, parks, and of course, walking along the River Thames.
