Central Park - an Urban Oasis

Central Park - an Urban Oasis

We're so lucky - right opposite our apartment in New York City is Central Park; the most visited urban park in the USA. This iconic symbol of the Big Apple draws over forty million visitors a year, and our little one was keen to go play. Read more ...

Christmas Lights in the Big Apple

Christmas Lights in the Big Apple

After what seems like an age, we're back on the road living 'A Life Redesigned.'  I have a book presentation (the last of the Kickstarter campaign rewards), and we'd figured it was a great opportunity to fulfill a bucket list item and see the Christmas lights in the Big Apple. Read more .....

10-weeks in England - Here's the Final Skinny

So this is the final post covering our ten-week trip to England in the early summer of 2019.  We were starting to live the title of Dad's new travel book, 'A Life Redesigned.' Years of planning were over and our extended travel adventures had begun in earnest. Read more....

10-week England Trip Expense Breakdown

10-week England Trip Expense Breakdown

In my book, 'A Life Redesigned' I spoke about the importance of budgeting your travel, and taking what you learn about your spending and feeding that back into your financial planning. Thus, when we decided to travel to the United Kingdom for ten weeks in the early summer of 2019, this presented the ideal opportunity to do just this. Read more.....

Conquering Caen Hill Locks

Conquering Caen Hill Locks

Near Devices on the Kennet and Avon Canal, a staggering twenty-nine locks allow narrowboats to ascend or descend the 237ft of Caen Hill in a little over two miles.  I hadn't expected to be operating these on this sunny summer afternoon but what fun it turned out to be, and it’s always great to make new friends. Life on a Narrowboat

Life on a Narrowboat

While in the West Country we were invited to spend time on the narrowboat, Escapade, that Graeme and Jayne (left in the photo) passionately call home.  We eagerly accepted their gracious invitation to spend a few hours afloat on the Kennet and Avon Canal as they moved a couple of miles down the bank to another mooring location. Pastures Green

Pastures Green

After what seems like an age of preparation, our long-term travels have begun. Our first adventure is a ten week trip to England.  We will spend time in Buckinghamshire, the New Forest, the Lake District, South Wales, and the West Country.  If everything goes to plan, we will do four housesits, two Airbnb, and stay with friends twice.  It should be a wonderful adventure, and we'll be living Dad's new travel book, A Life Designed. Lake Perris Teardrop Gathering 2019

Lake Perris Teardrop Gathering 2019

One of our favorite events of the year is the Lake Perris Teardrop Gathering. This year saw just over eighty teardrop campers descend on the park. It was time to meet friends old and new and share wonderful food prepared for both the Dutch Oven Cookout on Friday night and the Pot Luck on Saturday evening. Read more...

First House Sit of 2019

First House Sit of 2019

It's great to get our first house sit of the year under our belt; a 10-night stay at a wonderful home in La Jolla, California with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, and just a 10-minute walk from the beach.  Our duties were straightforward; look after the house, get the trash out and empty the mailbox.  There were no pet responsibilities, which disappointed Xaria somewhat. The Hills Alive With California Poppies

The Hills Alive With California Poppies

As you drive north on I-15 in Southern California, having passed Lake Elsinore, you cannot fail to see the super bloom of California Poppies that has burst out on the hills. It's a fabulous sight to withhold.  The beautiful display of wildflowers is attracting the crowds. Read more ...

Will There Be A Super Bloom?

Will There Be A Super Bloom?

Weather-wise it's been a crazy start to 2019 in Southern California - certainly the worst we've seen in eighteen years of living here.  Storm after storm has battered the West Coast, and temperatures have been on the really chilly side!  Thus, we were extremely happy to find that our first teardrop camping trip of the year to Anza Borrego State Park coincided with a couple of beautiful sunny days. Cruising the Mexican Riviera

Cruising the Mexican Riviera

It was with a little trepidation that we headed down to the Port of San Diego to start our second cruise. Our first cruise, taken some 10 years ago, was a complete disaster - ten years is a long time so I'll spare the company a shaming! Any fears we had turned out to be short-lived, for as soon as we got to the arrivals hall, it was clear everything was well organized. We'd chosen this Holland America cruise based on a recommendation from a friend (she'd just done a Hawaii cruise).  We needed a vacation after recent family events, and what could be easier than Uber'ing to the port and stepping onto a ship?
